Why a “Country Log Home” log home?

Energy Efficiency of Log Homes
Properly constructed log homes are warm in winter and cooler in summer. Their energy costs are generally less than conventionally constructed homes. The traditional R-value associated with any one log can vary depending upon its thickness and species. Energy efficiency is dependant upon the property of wood called “thermal capacitance”. Unlike traditional insulating materials with a much higher assigned R-value, a log combines its natural insulating ability with "thermal capacitance". Simply put, the billions of air cells within the structure of the wood do not allow for the easy transfer of heat from the inside of the home to the outside making your log home warmer in the winter. The ability of solid log walls to “store” heat aids in reducing the inside temperature fluctuation which decreases the amount of energy consumed to heat your home. On the other hand, during the summer months heat is not transferred easily from the outside to the inside thereby making your log home cooler in the summer. |
